Schoolwide Routines & Procedures

Arrival

Students should transition to class upon arrival in a timely manner and check in with teacher/TA before using the vending machine or communal bathroom.

Dismissal

Students should listen for their bus to be called and come quickly to the front.  Many buses have routes right after their Clifton routes and need to transition quickly.  Car riders and walkers will have a separate dismissal announcement.

Changes in dismissal should be communicated to the Front Office when students arrive.  That helps us avoid delays in our bus line.

Any students who leave early (before the bell) must sign in/out at the Front Office.  Students under 18 need parent/guardian permission to sign out early.

Student Drivers

Student drivers are expected arrive to class on time.  Repeated tardies may lead to loss of driving privileges to Clifton.

Students parking in our Clifton parking lot are expected to turn in a copy of their driver's license and auto insurance to the front office.

Students Riding Together

For any students under the age of 18 who wish to ride together, Clifton requires written permission from both parents/guardians.  Parents/guardians may email sachi.edson@austinisd.org or clifton@austinisd.org

Lunch & Food Delivery

Students are welcome to bring food with them to Clifton (especially our afternoon students who leave home campuses before their normal lunch time to catch the Clifton shuttle).  That does NOT mean students have an unlimited amount of time to eat.  Teachers will review class-specific expectations for when/where food is allowed in class.

Students who eat in the classroom are responsible for checking their area for spills, crumbs, and trash.  They are responsible for cleaning their area to prevent pests.

Students who order food need to have it with them BEFORE they get to Clifton.  Any food that is delivered during the class period will be held at the Front Office until designated break time or the end of the period.  If food is not paid for in advance, it will be sent back.

Trips Out of Class

During class, students should use the restroom within the classroom as much as possible.  The accessible restroom should be left available for students who need it.

Students visiting the communal restrooms, vending machines, or coming up to the office should do so one-at-a-time with their program hall pass.

Groups of students out of class will be monitored by a staff member.

Break

Teachers may choose to schedule a 15-minute break during the class period (or more frequent, shorter breaks as make sense for their lesson flow).

All classrooms should have some visual cue to indicate the class  (or an individual student) is on break.

Personal Communication Devices

House Bill 1481 requires all Texas school districts to prohibit the use of “personal wireless communication devices” that can send or receive data.  Devices should be turned off and stored out of sight while on school property during the school day

  • School property = anywhere on school campus, including outdoor areas
  • School day = before the first bell and ending with the last bell of the day

If a student violates this policy

  • Device will be collected by school staff
  • Parent/guardian will be notified
  • Repeated violations will lead to longer periods of collection and required pick up by parent/guardian
  • Failure to turn over the device will result in additional disciplinary action
